Cognitive Development
Submerging the peacock umbrella and letting the water get in teaches your child about cause-and-effect and concepts like ‘full’ and ‘empty.’ You can use those words to narrate when the peacock is full of water and when it has emptied. Also, teach your child the concept of ‘rain’ and STEM principles.
When submerged, the peacock umbrella produces bubbles and that whimsical sound and effect inspires your child’s curiosity.
The peacock umbrella is an opportunity for pretend play. Pretend to be walking in the rain together with your child. Sing nursery rhymes like “Rain, rain! Go away!” Or have a conversation with the peacock and ask, “Do you think it will rain today?”

Physical Development
Holding the peacock umbrella submerged under water and then lifting it when it is full requires the larger arm muscles and strengthens your child’s gross motor skills.
For toddlers who find bath time to be difficult because of the startling sensation of flowing water, the peacock umbrella’s gentle stream may help them to get accustomed in a gradual way.

Social & Emotional Development
The dual-action involved with the peacock umbrella – submerging it first and then afterwards raising it so it rains – allows for taking turns. Model sharing and taking turns with your child – and then let them practice doing so with a friend or sibling.
